Fear

Fear

With a cry, she stuttered and fell.
She had been running for years
But It was catching up with her.

Her heart was racing and with wide eyes
She watched the dark mass come forward.
She felt it would devour her.

How she longed to cover her eyes!
But, terrifeid, she could not move.
So It began to creep toward her.

She saw into the beast, into the black heart.
She felt the immense sadness
And deep regret that dwelled within.

Slowly, almost gently, she is envelopped.
She gasps for air and for life.
How she struggles aimlessly!

She pushes at the mass, but it is strong.
Her legs kick at what they can.
Her arms flail, hands grasping what they may...

And suddenly grasping a hand.
His hand. And she is suddenly
Looking into his eyes.

It melts away.
And once again It is beaten.
