Disillusion

Disillusion

He sat in his room with the light on,
But darkness filled his mind.
His eyes were open, but he could not see.
There was a light he could not find.
His consciousness searched the darkest caverns
For the light he couldn't see.
From the first it was said that all that he lacked
Was a dose of reality.

He had notions of self-importance
And visions of grand delusions.
He thought he was great, but he was ignored,
And this added to his confusion.
And so he set out into the world
His greatness for to see.
But he didn't know that when he did
He'd find reality.

He left with nothing but a small sack lunch,
Thinking he could conquer the world.
But it did not accept him, as he once had hoped
With grateful arms unfurled.
He sat depressed and thought aloud,
"This is no place for someone like me."
He leaned out from the balony, became one with the street.
'Twas a lethal dose of reality.
